The Guava easyCyte™ 5 HPL is in a group of benchtop flow cytometers that are developed by EMD Millipore. These compact systems require minimal space and offer researchers several features for completing their flow cytometry projects.
Some features and benefits of the Guava easyCyte 5 HPL are standard with easyCtye instruments. The fluidics system is based on a patented microcapillary design that differs from the use of a sheath-fluid design that is standard for most flow cytometers. In the microcapilliary design, the instrument uses smaller volumes of the samples, produces a limited amount of waste material, and requires less to operate. The waste generation is generally less than 40 milliliters after eight hours of continuous use. As standard with Guava easyCyte systems, the Guava easyCyte 5 HPL uses digital signal processing. The sample format is either an automated 96-well plate loader or a single tube loader. The parameter dynamic range is a custom option that is either 4.0 decades or 5.0 decades. The cell requirement for this group of instruments is 2,000 cells per test with the typical range being between 25,000 and 100,000 cellls.
The Guava easyCyte 5 HPL also includes features that are unique to its system. This instruments has a blue laser that generates an excitation of 150 mW. The system identifies cell samples using absolute cell counts and a maximum of five parameters; three that are fluorescent colors and two that are side and forward light scatter.
The most common applications of the Guava easyCtye 5 HPL are viral detection, marine biology, bacteria detection, and particle analysis. This system supports both Guava and FlowCellect kits. If researchers have unique projects, they are able to use InCyte software application to run custom-defined reagents. The software runs on a laptop computer that the operator can use with or without a mouse. The laptop is available with a sampling system that consists of a single tube.
