The BD LSRFortessa™ X20 is a cell analyzer that has the capability to detect as many as 18 colors at the same time while supporting 5 lasers. The instrument is designed as a desktop system that requires minimal space, but with performance that at least equals that of larger systems. There are customizable options for the number of wavelengths (up to 16) and laser power.
The BD LSRFortessa X20 has a compact size that allows it to fit into most work space areas. Its design also features components that are easily accessed by the instrument’s operator.
Following the design of other instruments in its class that are designed by BD Biosciences, the BD LSRFortessa contains an optics system that includes both excitation and collection optics. The excitation optics system includes numerous lasers with a fixed wavelength, beam-shaping optics, and singular pinholes that cause beam spots to become spatially separated. The collection optics system involves the delivery of emitted light to detector arrays using fiber optics.
Another feature of the LSRFortessa X20 is its fluidics system that uses a fixed-alignment design. This design consists of a pressure-driven system that starts with hydrodynamic focusing to compel cell samples to flow over the cuvette flow cell that has an alignment that is fixed with the laser. This fluidics design limits the amount of time the system requires to start. This system also makes sure the laser is directly focused on the sample stream.
Researchers who require a unique configuration of the BD LSRFortessa X20 have the option to use the special order program to obtain the setup they need. This program can also be used to upgrade an existing system. Researchers can specify the lasers they want from a selection of 18 lasers that include both infrared and ultraviolet wavelengths. Researchers can also custom order the filter and assay options for their BD LSRFortessa X20.
